My Finalists for the GLAAD Art Auction

Care to help me select which photo(s) I’m going to submit to the GLAAD Art Auction this year? I’ve narrowed it down to seven finalists (I am allowed to submit up to three photos).

Note that by scrolling down, you’re going to see photos that are not safe for work.

Also remember that the goal here is to raise money for GLAAD, so I need to pick a photo (or two, or three) that will get the highest bids. It needs to be a piece that a person (in New York, not the Midwest) would want to own and would be willing to pay for.

I think I have three preferences, but I’d love to hear some other opinions too.

Jeff 1

Jeff 2

Matt 1

Matt 2

Scott 1

Scott 2

Scott 3

I like “Jeff 2″ best – the pose shows an interesting bilateral asymmetry, enhanced by the colour of the beads. As well, the way he’s holding his right foot appears to put him off-balance* gives whole pose an “in the moment” feel.

    * Of course, Jeff 1 shows he’s likely capable of holding Jeff 2 for quite some time.**
    ** Yes, I footnote comments. That’s how I roll. :)

All the photo’s are great. What is selected is who are you going to target?

Jeff 1 – great photo for a naked yoga studio. It shows how flexible the body can be.
Jeff 2 – represents Mardi Gras and says “fun”. It is a bit erotic without showing his goods (which some people don’t want to see)
Matt 1 – love the shadows that are coming off some of the muscles. This photo can go pretty much anywhere one would want to put it – from the home office to the bedroom.
Matt 2 – great photo that shows his um “talent”. It may show his penis, but its a tasteful photo (in my opinion) and being in B&W, is wonderful.
Scott 1 – great photo but I am thinking that its something I would see in a porn mag. But, it would go where ever the person buying it wants to put it.
Scott 2 – fun with the light fixture. Its a fun photo.
Scott 3 – tasteful photo that could go almost anywhere in the house.

I would say to submit the following photo’s:

    Jeff 1
    Jeff 2
    Matt 1

I’m no New Yorker, but I’d vote for Jeff 1 and Scott 2, definitely … and then I’m torn between Matt 1 and Scott 1. Matt’s glasses make me think “Clark Kent” in black-and-white, but I appreciate just about every Scott C. image for one reason or another.

  24. #25 by jRc on September 5, 2012 - 9:32 pm

    Matt 1, Scott 1, Scott 2

  25. #26 by khowaga on September 5, 2012 - 9:44 pm

Jeff1 and Matt 2 because of the vintage tube socks.

Jeff 1 or Jeff 2. Beautiful form, blending two art forms into one via photography.

Jeff 2 is my favorite. The pose and the colors make it so. If I had to choose a runnerup, I’d say Jeff 1. The pose and lines resulting are good.

Matt 2 Because of the shadows on the white tank top play well with the shadows in the background given more definitions in his muscles and form. It also does make his “tool” stand out and with the darkness all the way until the tip get touched with light. The black and white contrast is very good in this one. And if done on film there are many ways to play with that and still have it look good after printed in the darkroom. (I personal think black and white work in a dark room makes better looking prints when you mess with it from just being a perfect print.)

Scott 1 Is well one of your most sexually artistic prints. His masculinity just pores out of him in this shot. The shape and form through the wet fabric creates a wonderment almost found only in the conquest of sexual gratification. The color all play well to bring his eyes to that burning strength of maleness and sexuality that is him. For the purpose of sexuality his masculinity stands out like a trumpet player in a violin assembly. For the gay community the ideal of not conforming to everyday stereotypes of the femininity man is important for many. IF he is gay, or bisexual or even just heteroflexible he could be very iconic to other masculine queers in the gay community that in some areas very much even from with in the community tell us we are not gay enough. The pose in this picture has a lot of strength behind it and that is important. His hair and tattoo also make every aspect of him come out in the picture as the lighting just washes over him like water from the shower. The tip of his manhood just peaking out screams not just lust but the rough mass of his manhood leaking out beyond the confines of not just the basketball shorts but the photograph.

Scott 3 would be my next choice, once again for many of the same reasons, But in this one the black and white working with the chandler the light of the photo bring out every muscle well and his facial features. Their is a lot of stark contrast that bring a lot of flavor with who this man is in this photograph. He tends to stand out as a character ready to be active yet still leaves a bit of a reserved, sternness in his face that makes him a dream to approach with caution.
