The story I’ve read goes like this: Photographer Mo Gelber was outside the Manhattan Criminal Court on August 16th when he saw a handcuffed couple being led in. Just as they were about to be taken inside the building, the man leaned in to the woman for a kiss. Gelber captured this photo.

Gelber entered the photo in the Project Imaginat10n contest, but was discouraged when he learned that he needed written permission from the subjects of the photo in order for it to qualify for the grand prize. So Gelber did what anyone in 2012 would do, he turned to social media, sharing the photo on Facebook and telling his story. Before long, the photo and story were shared and seen by thousands.
Finally, Alexis Creque contacted Gelber and identified herself and her 26-year-old boyfriend as the couple in the photo. She told Gelber that the two of them were arrested after a overnight graffiti spree.
And here’s where the story ends, for now. Creque confessed that her boyfriend was still in jail, and she refused to sign the paperwork until he is released. Whether this happened before the photo contest’s deadline is what I don’t know.
I love the story, as well as the photograph, though.
